Qualification consists of shooting steel plates a series
of 3 times and totaled. After all contestants
have completed their time trials, each is then placed in a head-to-head match with
the shooter who is closest to their time.
If there is a larger than usual turnout for the match, the number of qualifying
runs may be reduced to save time.
The plates for the Rimfire division consist of 8 round plates with a small duck
at each end. During each qualification
series you need to shoot 5 round disks and the duck on your side of the rack. In head-to-head competition, you will
shoot half the rack (four round plates) with a duck last.
Observers will determine which duck was hit first.
The plates for Autoloader and Revolver divisions consist of 6 large plates, four
round and two other shapes, typically bowling pins or Poppers.
In qualification, all six must be knocked down for Autoloader, but only five
for Revolver. Additionally, in head-to-head,
you must hit a Popper on the ground below the Rimfire rack.
These centerfire Poppers are angled so that the one hit first lands on the
bottom, plainly showing the winner.
Autoloader vs. autoloader shoots 6 targets plus the Popper; revolver vs. revolver
shoots 4 targets plus the Popper. When
an autoloader shoots against a revolver (as in the final round for the overall match
winner), the autoloader must hit five targets plus the Popper, the revolver four
plus the Popper.
7-plus-shot revolvers must load only 6 rounds to compete under Revolver rules; if
fully loaded they must compete under Autoloader rules.
Hitting the wrong stop plate, or hitting the stop plate before clearing the required
number of targets from the main rack, will forfeit your run to your opponent.
In the head-to-head competition you will need to win 2 out of 3 runs to continue
on. Losers go to a Losers’ Bracket
with one chance to continue on. After
the winners of each of the three divisions are determined (including shooters coming
back through the Loser's Bracket), they compete against each other in final 2-out-of-3
runs to determine the overall match winner.
Framed certificates will be awarded to the overall winner, and for 1st
and 2nd Place in each division.
